A Nigerian politician has been arrested while smuggling cocaine out from the country. Mr Eme Zuru Ayortor was caught with nearly two kilograms of cocain swallowed in his body at the airport.
Police said that body scanner revealed the drugs in his stomach as he attempted to board a flight to frankfurt.
Mr Ayortor, aged 52 who is running for a seat in the Edo State house of Assemble said the money from the drug deal is used to fund for the election campaign.
Officers from Nigeria's drug law enforcement agency says they recovered 100 Parcels of cocain from the politician's stomach at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.
According to report, Mr Ayortor told the police that he needed money because his last election campaign in 2007, bankrupted him. He was arrested two weeks ago , while police are now at their end of their investigation, they believe Mr Ayortor is a part of a wider network because the quantity of cocain that was recovered on him was large. An officer told BBC that it might not be his first attempt to smuggle drugs out from the country.
Mr Ayortor is a qualified pharmacist, studied at the University of Winconsin in United States of America
