The hosts raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to early goals from Samuel Eto’o and Andre Schurrle before referee Andrew Mariner awarded Chelsea a penalty after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had handled Eden Hazard’s effort on goal. However, the referee’s inexplicably got the offending players identity wrong and sent Kieran Gibbs off instead. Hazard made it 3-0 from the spot before Oscar swept home a fourth just before half-time.

Chelsea turned the screw in the second half and recorded their biggest ever win over Arsenal thanks to further goals from Oscar and substitute Mohamed Salah.
The win moves Chelsea seven clear of Arsenal and Liverpool, with the Merseysiders in action against Cardiff this afternoon.
