BMW armoured cars: ‘FG never granted import waiver’ Okonjo Iweala
FROM Iheanacho Nwosu, Abuja
new twist was yesterday introduced in the controversial two BMW armoured cars purchased by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) as the Minister  of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala  said the N255million cars were not among the vehicles that the Federal Government granted import waiver.

Speaking when she appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation currently probing the bullet proof cars transaction, Okonjo Iweala denied granting the waiver to the cars. She corroborated the testimony of the Nigeria Customs Service, (NCS) that the Federal Government granted import waiver to the Lagos State Government in 2012 to import 300 assorted vehicles for the 18th national sports festival, tagged ‘Eko 2012’.

Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah  last week told the probe panel that the cars were not purchased for her by NCAA as being alleged. She also said the  vehicles were captured in the 2013 Appropriation .
Nigeria Customs Service, NCS had on Wednesday October 30 told the Committee on Aviation that the Federal Ministry of Finance granted a waiver of N10.1 million to Coscharis Motors to import cars including the controversial BMW into the country this year.
