President of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF Aminu Maigari has declared that despite drawing former World Cup champions, Argentina, Iran and Bosnia-Herzegovina in next year’s World Cup in Brazil, the Super Eagles will prove their worth as African champions.
The last time the Super Eagles competed at the World Cup as African champions was in their maiden appearance at the USA ’94 tournament and the Nigerians shocked the World with their football artistry.
The Clemens Westerhof tutored team got to the second round and were only undone by inexperience as they lost narrowly to Italy after a last minute error.
Drawing from that experience, NFF President, Maigari said the Eagles will not be intimidated by any team as Stephen Keshi will be taking a well prepared and exposed team to the Mundial.
”The Super Eagles are going to compete favourably at the World Cup. We won’t just be going there to complete the number. We are going there to compete as strong contenders.
We will give it our best shot.”
He said that in keeping with what has become a tradition with his executive, the football house will source funds to ensure the team is given adequate camping period, enough friendly matches and adequate resources to pursue the World Cup project.
”All hands must be on deck because in all the competitions we have taken part in, we have always harped on adequate preparations and our teams have always gone out there to justify our investments in them. Brazil 2014 will not be an exception,” Maigari said.
