Egyptian Judge Sentences 683 Citizens To Death For Supporting Ex-President

A judge in Egypt on Monday sentenced to death 683 alleged supporters of the country’s ousted Islamist president, including the Muslim Brotherhood’s spiritual leader, the latest in mass trials that have drawn international condemnation and stunned rights groups.

The same judge also upheld the death penalty for 37 of 529 defendants sentenced in a similar case in March, though he commuted the rest of the sentences to life imprisonment.

Still, the 37 death sentences — which can be appealed in a higher court — remain an extraordinarily high number for Egypt, compared to the dramatic trial in the wake of the 1981 assassination of President Anwar Sadat, when only five people were sentenced to death and executed.

Chinese Man Xiao Bo Wanted For Duping Cross River State Government

The government of Cross River State Nigeria has declared a Chinese man, Xiao Bo wanted for fraud.
The suspect allegedly defrauded Cross River Government agency of the sum of N3.6 million.

The money is supposed to be part of revenue accrued to the board of internal revenue as road infrastructure maintenance levy. The levy was recently introduced making it mandatory for all companies and trucks operating in the state to pay a stipulated amount for road maintenance.

Bo who is an agent of a quarry company based in Akamkpa Local Govern­ ment Area of the state was said to have bolted after allegedly diverting huge funds expected to be remitted by Messrs Brothers Quarry into the government’s coffers as road maintenance levy.

Virgin Australia plane forced to land in Bali over fears of a hijack

A Virgin Australia plane (pictured above after it landed in Bali) was forced to land on the island of Bali over fears of a possible hijack. Initially reports said the plane, which was flying from Australia and carrying 150 passengers, was being hijacked, but it was later found to be an aggressive drunk passenger who was trying to force his way into the cockpit.

The pilot sent a distress signal to airport authorities and the plane was cleared to land in Bali so the situation could be dealt with. BBC reports that immediately the plane landed, the drunk passenger, who had been overpowered by the crew and handcuffed him, was arrested at the airport.

Controversial singer and producer, Gabriel Amanyi, popularly known as Terry G, has again been involved in a messy fight at a hangout in his Iju neighborhood.

Four Suspects Arrested For Beating Sales Boy To Death In Oyo State,Ibadan

The spate of mob action in Oyo State, ibadan continued yesterday evening as a sales boy was allegedly beaten to death in the Akinyele area of Ibadan, the state capital.

Since the discovery penultimate Saturday of a forest where human bones and some apparently kidnapped persons at the throes of death were kept for suspected ritual purposes, at least three persons have been lynched by a mob in different parts of the state over suspicions that they are ritualist.
